EXPRESS ENTRY
Express Entry is the system which accepts applications for permanent
residence from skilled workers. First, you need to create an online profile and get in the pool of candidates which are ranked in the pool using a
point-based system using your information in your profile. After you receive
an invitation to apply, you will submit your application for permanent
residence.
There are 3 economic immigration programs under Express Entry.
FEDERAL SKILLED WORKER
Skilled workers with foreign work experience can apply through this program. You must meet all the minimum requirements to be eligible to apply under this program. These minimum requirements are:
– Skilled work experience
– Language ability
– Education
Candidates who meet all the minimum requirements are assessed according
to:
• Age
• Education
• Skilled work experience
• Language skills (English and/or French)
• Adaptability
• Having a valid job offer

CANADIAN EXPERIENCE CLASS
Skilled workers with Canadian work experience can apply through this program.
You must meet the criteria:
– a language test result which shows you meet the required language levels for your job
– at least 1 year of skilled work experience in Canada in the last 3 years before you apply

FEDERAL SKILL TRADES
Skilled workers who are qualified in a skilled trade can apply through this program.
Minimum requirements are:
• Meeting the required language levels for each language ability
• Having at least 2 years of full-time work experience (or equivalent) in a skilled trade within the 5 years before you apply
• Meeting the job requirements for that skilled trade as stated in the NOC
• Having a valid job offer for a period of at least 1 year or a certificate of qualification in that skilled trade issued by a
Canadian provincial, territorial or federal authority

The study permit is an official document that allows a foreign national to
study at designated learning institutions in Canada.
You can apply for a study permit if you:
• Are enrolled at a designated learning institution
• Show that you have enough money to pay for your tuition fees, living
expenses and return transportation to your home country
• Convince the officer that you will leave Canada before your study permit
expires
• Obey the law and have no criminal record
After getting your study permit, you must
• Respect any conditions listed on your study permit
• Stop studying if you no longer meet the requirements
• Leave Canada when your permit expires

You can apply for a work permit if you intent to:
• Work in Canada
• Extend a work permit
• Hire a foreign worker
There are specific requirements you need to meet when you apply for a work
permit. You must:
• Prove that you will leave Canada when your work permit expires
• Show that you are financially able to take care of yourself and your
dependents during your stay in Canada
• Show that you have no record of criminal activity
• Show that you do not plan to work for an employer listed with “ineligible”
status
You can apply for a work permit from inside Canada if:
• You have a valid study or work permit
• Your spouse, common-law partner or parents have a valid study or work
permit
• You are eligible for a post secondary work permit
• Your permanent residence application is in process
• You made a refugee protection claim

You need a visitor visa, also called a temporary resident visa to travel to
Canada. This is an official document which shows that you meet the
requirements to enter Canada.
Most visitors can stay up to 6 months with their visitor visas unless stated
otherwise by the border service officer at the port of entry.
To get a visitor visa, you must:
• Have a valid travel document
• Have no criminal or immigration related convictions
• Convince an immigration officer that you have ties that will take you back to
your home country and you will leave Canada at the end of your visit
• Prove that you have enough money for your stay
• Show that you are not inadmissible to Canada
